Miami Tragedy: Woman Killed, Two Children Critically Injured in Early Morning Shooting in Biscayne Gardens

Miami-Dade County — A horrifying scene unfolded early Saturday morning in northeastern Miami-Dade County as gunfire tore through a residential neighborhood, killing a woman and critically injuring two children inside an SUV.

Just after 1:05 a.m., deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) responded to a report of gunfire near the intersection of NE 141st Street and 2nd Court in the Biscayne Gardens community. When authorities arrived, they discovered a dark-colored SUV riddled with bullet holes. Inside the vehicle were three victims: a woman believed to be in her mid-to-late 30s, a 12-year-old boy, and an 11-year-old girl.

All three had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported them to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Despite medical efforts, the woman succumbed to her injuries. The two children remained in critical condition as of Saturday afternoon.

Multiple Shooters Suspected

According to investigators, preliminary findings suggest the attack was carried out by multiple assailants. Several individuals reportedly approached the SUV and opened fire before fleeing the area. MDSO detectives are working to determine the number of shooters and their identities.

Detective Angel Rodriguez of the MDSO called the shooting “senseless” and expressed frustration over the violence plaguing residential neighborhoods.

“This is no reason — no justification — as to why this has to take place,” Rodriguez said. “This is a residential area.”

The bullet-riddled SUV was towed from the scene as detectives canvassed the neighborhood, interviewing residents and collecting evidence. A second vehicle believed to be connected to the shooting was also impounded as part of the investigation.

At this stage, authorities are working to establish the relationship between the woman and the two children, though they are believed to be family members.

Shock and Grief in Biscayne Gardens

Residents of the usually quiet Biscayne Gardens neighborhood awoke to flashing police lights, crime scene tape, and the grim reality of violent crime on their doorstep.

Andre McFarlane, a local resident, expressed disbelief.

“My reaction is that it’s terrible,” McFarlane told CBS News Miami. “This is heartbreaking. We don’t expect to wake up to this kind of violence in our community.”

Rodriguez echoed those sentiments, noting that the violence has left an emotional scar on an entire neighborhood.

“[We’re] reaching out to residents in this area and basically talking to anyone willing to speak to us,” he added. “We believe that there were several shooters involved.”

Public Urged to Come Forward

As of Sunday morning, no arrests have been made, and authorities are asking for the public’s help. Anyone with information is urged to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS (8477). Tipsters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward.

This shooting marks yet another tragic chapter in Miami-Dade’s ongoing struggle with gun violence—one that has increasingly claimed the lives of innocent bystanders, including children.

Officials have not yet released the identities of the victims, pending family notification.
