Two Deputies Injured in Deadly Stolen Car Chase on Florida’s Turnpike

Cops Injured in Car Chase Crash

Two Broward County deputies were injured, a civilian motorist was killed, and a woman was arrested following a high-speed stolen vehicle pursuit that ended in a violent crash on Florida’s Turnpike Thursday afternoon. According to authorities, deputies with the Broward Sheriff’s Office were assisting the Coconut Creek Police Department in locating a stolen pickup truck that had been reported out of Fort Lauderdale. Investigators said the driver refused to stop, initiating a pursuit that moved onto the southbound lanes of the Turnpike. During the early stages of the confrontation near Sample Road, officials said the suspect struck marked patrol vehicles belonging to both agencies before continuing southbound at high speed.

Deadly Crash Near Mile Marker 58

The pursuit continued through central Broward County with assistance from the Florida Highway Patrol. Authorities said the chase came to a violent end near Mile Marker 58 when the stolen truck crashed into a concrete barrier. A civilian motorist traveling on the Turnpike was killed in the crash. Officials have not publicly released the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin. The female suspect was taken into custody at the scene and transported to a hospital for treatment. Authorities have not yet announced the full list of charges she may face.

Deputies Hospitalized, Lanes Shut Down

Two deputies whose vehicles were struck during the incident were transported to area hospitals with injuries described as non-life-threatening. The crash forced the closure of all southbound lanes between Sunrise Boulevard and Interstate 595 for several hours, creating significant traffic delays during peak travel time. Motorists were diverted as investigators processed the crash scene and reconstructed the sequence of events.

Investigation Ongoing

The Florida Highway Patrol is leading the crash investigation. Authorities are reviewing dash camera and body camera footage and are asking anyone who witnessed the pursuit to come forward. The incident underscores the persistent danger of high-speed pursuits on one of South Florida’s busiest highways, where a single decision can escalate into a fatal chain reaction in seconds.
