When thinking of activists, a 16 year old girl walking into the United Nations climate summit and swaying an entire populace probably wouldn’t come to mind. However, that is exactly what happened early this year. Greta Thunberg, Swedish child environmentalist activist and winner of the International Children’s Peace Prize, shook the minds of every adult in the building. In the presence of world leaders, she preached “How dare you…” and proceeded to make valid points that would leave the world speechless.

Climate Action Summit

During the United Nations Climate Action Summit, Greta Thunberg addressed the entire world and asked them to truly realize what is happening. She decided to stand strong and put the rest of the youth of the world on her side. Her main points were that the older officials of our era are focused on the economy. Focused on exactly how to increase monetary value while also aiding the environment in smaller ways. Greta feels this is not the policies that should be focused on.

Thunberg is concerned with the fact that although these small efforts will aid the world that these older officials live in, the future for children is being taken away. Problems aren’t being taken care of as much as they should be and people aren’t worried. She states that entire ecosystems are being destroyed and the future of the Earth is truly being stolen away from the next generations.

“We are in the beginning of a mass extinction and all you can talk about is money and fairytales of eternal economic growth. HOW DARE YOU!”

Future Generations Taking Action

Although many people will see this as insignificant rantings of a child, there should definitely be some attention to the subject. Climate activists are a very important piece to the survival of our race in the future. They are the ones that are paying attention to the world and what is changing over time. Fortunately, people like Greta Thunberg are actively trying to sway minds to take action. For those that think she is truly just ranting, her statistics come true and her message is strong. Hopefully, her strength at the United Nations Climate Action Summit was enough to throttle people in the correct direction.
