The robots are coming! You can put your head in the sand and hope all day that this isn’t true, or isn’t going to happen anytime soon, but you are only kidding yourself. One design we keep seeing with robots is the four-legged “dog-like” model. And there is a company that has a robot just like this, which is so cool and so functional that a major company bought the company that manufactures them.
On the 19th, Amazon acquired Rivr, a Zurich, Switzerland-based robotics startup known for its stair-climbing delivery robot. The acquisition was announced, although financial terms were not disclosed. Rivr had previously raised about 25 million dollars and was valued at around 100 million dollars.

The Swiss robotics company was founded in 2023, and specializes in hybrid wheeled-and-legged delivery robots that can climb stairs and navigate rough urban terrain. Their robots, such as RIVR ONE and RIVR TWO, have been used in pilot projects with partners including Just Eat Takeaway and Swiss Post.
Rivr is currently piloting its delivery robots in a few places. They’re active in Switzerland, with trials alongside Swiss Post and Migros Online in Zurich, and they’ve also started a pilot in the UK, specifically in Milton Keynes. Additionally, they’re testing in the United States, with trials in Pittsburgh and Austin, though these are still early-stage tests and not full-scale rollouts yet.
