Dirty Dancing Comes To Broadway

The beloved 1987 film Dirty Dancing is officially making its way to Broadway with a new stage production, Dirty Dancing: The Musical, arriving in New York City in February 2027. The musical will begin performances at the Lena Horne Theatre on February 12, 2027, ahead of its official opening on March 14. The Broadway engagement is currently scheduled to run through September 5, 2027.

The Original Story Comes To The Stage

Written by Eleanor Bergstein, who also wrote the screenplay for the original movie, the musical follows Baby as she spends the summer of 1963 with her family at Kellerman’s resort in the Catskills. There, she meets Johnny Castle, a charismatic dance instructor. Their relationship develops through dance and romance as Baby becomes increasingly independent and begins challenging the expectations placed on her. The stage production will feature songs from the original movie, including “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life,” “Hungry Eyes” and “Do You Love Me?”

New Stars Will Play Baby And Johnny

Annalese Starzec will play Baby, while Blake Zelesnikar will portray Johnny. Both actors are coming to Broadway after appearing in the current North American touring production. The production is directed by Lonny Price, a Tony Award nominee and two-time Emmy Award winner who also appeared in the original 1987 film as Neil Kellerman. Choreography is by Darrell Grand Moultrie, whose Broadway credits include Fat Ham. The production began its North American tour in August 2026 and is traveling across the United States and Canada before arriving in New York.

Tickets Coming Soon

Tickets for the Broadway production are scheduled to go on sale October 9, 2026, following a fan presale beginning October 8. The show is expected to run approximately two hours and 20 minutes, including one intermission, and is recommended for audiences ages 10 and older. The Broadway production arrives as the original film approaches its 40th anniversary, giving longtime fans and a new generation of audiences the opportunity to experience Baby and Johnny’s story on stage. Dirty Dancing: The Musical will begin Broadway performances on February 12, 2027.
