I gotta be honest, I do not think I’m for arresting these teachers all the time like this and ruining their lives.
All because you want to protect your oh so innocent, not really innocent at all, child. Now if the child is young and doesn’t know any better that’s a completely different story. But in this scenario, the female student was 17 years old and the teacher was 26 years old. The student was about to go off to college. The teacher Olivia Ortz, is a child herself, fresh out of college. So Ortz isn’t an adult preying on children, they are both children and yet the justice system will try to turn her into a sex offender. The student is not upset about the incident or with the teacher at all and says that the two are in love.
So did we as a society really need to ruin this poor 26-year-old girl’s life? Just because she fell in love with a 17-year-old? I don’t think so. Fire her? Sure that might be reasonable punishment, she certainly knew the rules of the occupation. Legal action? That’s honestly pushing it too far ethically for me. But, to completely ruin her life in the national media and severely change the course direction of her entire existence over this? That seems like a really harsh penalty to pay for falling in love with the wrong person. Something that we all have done at some point in our lives.
Remember this is not a woman taking advantage of a child this is a 26-year-old dating a 17-year-old. Nine-year dating gaps are big but are not uncommon in our society at all. Johnny Deep and Amber Heard are all over the news lately. They were together for years and have a 22-year age gap! But, then again maybe they are not the best example…
The teacher and pupil love affair came to a sudden end when Ortz’s husband found messages between the two on her iPad and told the principal of the school in an irate fit. Now Ortz has been arrested and is sitting in jail with a $150,000 bond.
