Florida State used a dominant stretch to open the second half and steady contributions from its backcourt to defeat UT Martin 87-73 on Tuesday night, improving to 3-1 on the season.
Cam Miles sparked the Seminoles after halftime, scoring 15 of his 17 points in the second half as Florida State turned a tight game into a double-digit lead. The Seminoles opened the period on a decisive 16-2 run, stretching a 43-40 halftime edge into a 59-42 advantage.
UT Martin (3-1) fought back and trimmed the deficit to seven on two occasions, the last time at 74-67 with 4:52 remaining. But the Skyhawks never got closer as Florida State’s depth and perimeter shooting carried the night.
Miles finished 7-of-10 from the field and knocked down three 3-pointers. Robert McCray V added 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting, including four makes from beyond the arc. McCray also served as a playmaking hub, dishing out seven of Florida State’s 21 assists.
Alex Steen scored 13 points, while AJ Swinton and Lajae Jones each added 12 for Florida State, which entered the night averaging 95 points per game while shooting nearly 46% overall and 36% from three. The Seminoles cooled slightly but remained effective, shooting 43% (31 of 72) from the floor and 34% (12 of 35) from long distance.
UT Martin was carried by an outstanding performance from Andrija Bukumirovic, who poured in 22 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, including 14 points and seven boards in the first half. Matas Deniusas added 11 points and Dragos Lungu had 10 for the Skyhawks.
The opening 20 minutes were tightly contested, with McCray hitting four 3-pointers and scoring 12 first-half points to help the Seminoles to their narrow 43-40 lead. Steen added nine before the break, but Bukumirovic kept UT Martin close with his strong interior play.
Florida State’s win continued its success against Ohio Valley Conference opponents. The Seminoles are now 12-1 all-time against current OVC programs.
With balanced scoring, strong second-half defense, and timely shooting, Florida State continued its early-season momentum—and showed once again that it can put teams away in a hurry.
