Food Truck Killer Shot and Killed by Police in Motel Shoot Out

Suspect in Fatal Double Shooting Killed in Miami-Dade Shootout

A man wanted in connection with a fatal double shooting earlier Monday was shot and killed by Miami-Dade deputies during a tense shootout as they attempted to take him into custody late Monday night. Authorities say the suspect, whose identity has not yet been released, was involved in an altercation outside a food truck at the intersection of Northwest 27th Avenue and Northwest 30th Street earlier in the day.

Surveillance Operation at Extended Stay America

Deputies had been tracking the armed suspect while he was staying at an Extended Stay America Hotel in the Blue Lagoon neighborhood on Northwest 7th Street. According to law enforcement officials, Miami-Dade homicide detectives were conducting surveillance on the suspect—believed to be linked to the earlier shooting—when they decided to make an arrest attempt as he stepped into his vehicle. Around 9:30 p.m., as officers moved in, they encountered an immediate exchange of gunfire.

“Officers were executing a well-planned apprehension of a subject considered armed and extremely dangerous,” a Miami-Dade Public Information Officer explained. “Although the circumstances quickly escalated into a shootout, fortunately, no deputies sustained injuries.”

Video evidence captured by a local witness shows what appears to be the suspect’s body inside his car in the hotel parking lot, adding an unmistakable visual record to the unfolding events.

Connection to the Earlier Double Shooting

Investigators have connected the fatal shootout to an incident that occurred earlier that day. According to sources, the suspect had been involved in a violent dispute outside a food truck at NW 27th Avenue and NW 30th Street. Witness reports indicate that a verbal argument escalated dramatically when the suspect brandished a firearm, firing into a group gathered at the food truck. In that incident, authorities confirmed that a 27-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene and a male victim, injured during the shooting, later succumbed to his injuries at Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center. A third individual, who was also targeted during the confrontation, managed to escape harm.

Local residents expressed shock and dismay at the recurring violence in the neighborhood. One local commented, “It’s unbelievable that something like this could happen right down the street. We’re all on edge when these kinds of things occur so close to home.”

Ongoing Investigation and Community Response

In the aftermath of Monday’s shootout, law enforcement officials have recovered a firearm from inside the suspect’s vehicle. As is standard protocol with police-involved shootings, the incident is now under investigation by the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Division in conjunction with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Detectives are urging anyone with additional information or who witnessed any part of either the hotel incident or the earlier food truck shooting to come forward. Tips can be provided anonymously to Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.

While the shootout ended with no injuries to officers, community members remain disturbed by the level of violence unfolding in their area. Local advocacy groups and residents are calling for increased measures to address gang-related activities and gun violence—a sentiment echoed by several local leaders who have highlighted the urgent need for both community-based interventions and robust law enforcement strategies.

A Call for Transparency

Authorities have not released the name of the suspect as investigations continue. Officials stress that releasing the identity is contingent upon a full forensic analysis and the completion of the internal investigation surrounding this fatal encounter.

As Miami-Dade officials work to piece together the chain of events leading up to the fatal shootout and earlier double shooting, community members, while mourning the loss of life, are demanding accountability and measures to prevent future incidents. The developments underscore a broader concern over public safety and the challenges facing local law enforcement in managing violent confrontations involving armed individuals.
