Grandson of Tennis Legend Bobby Riggs Charged in Federal Child Exploitation Case
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Daniel Riggs, the grandson of tennis icon Bobby Riggs, has been arrested and charged with enticing a minor and producing child sexual abuse material, according to federal authorities.
The 31-year-old tennis coach from Fort Lauderdale allegedly engaged in explicit conversations with a minor under his coaching via social media. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Riggs is accused of sexually abusing the minor during travel for tennis training and tournaments both domestically and internationally.
Authorities say the abuse occurred primarily in South Florida. Riggs also allegedly created multiple anonymous profiles on social media to hide his identity and encouraged the victim to delete their conversations to evade detection.
Potential Additional Victims
Investigators revealed that social media records indicate the possibility of other victims. The FBI has asked anyone with information or who may have been victimized by Riggs to contact them at 1-800-CALL-FBI.
Legal Proceedings
Riggs is currently being held in custody at the Broward County Jail. A pretrial detention hearing is scheduled for December 23 at 11 a.m.
This case has drawn significant public attention due to Riggs’ family legacy. His grandfather, Bobby Riggs, remains a historic figure in tennis, best known for his 1973 “Battle of the Sexes” match against Billie Jean King.
Federal prosecutors have stressed the importance of vigilance and public cooperation in identifying additional victims in cases involving child exploitation. Investigations are ongoing.
