Trump Melts Down Over Epstein File Fallout, Blasts GOP Critics as “Weaklings” in Online Tirade
WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump lashed out Wednesday at fellow Republicans who have publicly questioned his administration’s refusal to release federal case files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, branding their concerns part of a broader “Jeffrey Epstein Hoax” allegedly pushed by Democrats and disloyal GOP members.
In a furious social media post, Trump accused skeptical Republicans of being “conned” by Democrats and said their criticism proved they had “learned nothing” during his years in power.
“Democrats’ new SCAM is what we will forever call the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax, and my PAST supporters have bought into this ‘bullshit,’ hook, line, and sinker,” Trump wrote. “They haven’t learned their lesson, and probably never will, even after being conned by the Lunatic Left for 8 long years.”
The post came amid increasing pressure from both sides of the aisle to release documents related to the Epstein investigation — documents Trump once promised to make public. Instead, his Justice Department has stonewalled attempts to unseal additional case files, sparking outrage and suspicion from some of his former supporters.
Trump Doubles Down in Oval Office
Later that day, speaking in the Oval Office alongside Bahrain’s Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad al-Khalifa, Trump reiterated his defiance, telling reporters that “foolish Republicans” were enabling Democrats by demanding transparency.
“This hoax surrounding Epstein has been perpetrated by the Democrats and some stupid Republicans,” he said. “Let these weaklings continue forward and do the Democrats’ work. Don’t even think about talking of our incredible and unprecedented success, because I don’t want their support anymore!”
Mounting Pressure from Within GOP
The president’s comments followed a week of internal party tension. On Tuesday, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) stated on a podcast that he supports releasing the Epstein files, calling it a “very delicate subject,” but adding, “We should put everything out there and let the people decide it.”
Democrats have seized on the GOP fracture. In the House, they’ve attempted multiple procedural maneuvers to force a vote compelling the Trump administration to release the Epstein records — all have been blocked by the Republican majority. In the Senate, Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) introduced a resolution pushing for full transparency on the case.
Gallego stated,
“Trump owes an explanation to America — was he lying to America for the last 8 years, or is he covering up for his rich elite friends?”
Trump Walks Back — Slightly
Despite his online tirades, Trump hinted at a possible concession this week, telling reporters that Attorney General Pam Bondi, who now leads the DOJ, should release “whatever she thinks is credible” from the case files.
This vague green light, however, did little to assure critics. Bondi, a longtime Trump loyalist and former Florida Attorney General, has not committed to any timeline for declassification or publication of materials related to Epstein’s federal prosecution or his 2019 jailhouse death.
Public Distrust Runs High
A CNN poll released Tuesday found that a majority of Americans are dissatisfied with the federal government’s handling of the Epstein case. Only 3% said they were satisfied with the level of information released, while 51% expressed dissatisfaction. The rest were either unaware of the details or undecided.
The Epstein scandal continues to cast a long shadow over both political parties, but especially over Trump — whose social connections to Epstein and longtime denials of involvement have raised persistent questions.
As the president enters the latter half of his second term with an increasingly divided Republican Party, the Epstein file controversy threatens to become a political litmus test — not just for transparency, but for loyalty in the MAGA ranks.
