It was Obvious from the Get, We Needed This Pizzeria
For generations of fans, the words “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” have been synonymous with one thing: pizza. From the original comic books and the beloved 1987 animated series to the movies and video games that followed, Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael could always be found chowing down on giant cheesy pies between battles with Shredder and the Foot Clan. Now, after nearly four decades of turtle-powered nostalgia, that fantasy has become a reality with the opening of the world’s first official Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles-themed pizzeria in Southern California.
The new TMNT Pizzeria officially opened its doors on June 20 on the famous Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, California. The immersive restaurant is the first permanent, officially licensed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles pizzeria anywhere in the world and has already become a must-visit destination for fans of the heroes in a half shell. The restaurant is packed with neon lights, vintage arcade games, turtle memorabilia, and decor inspired by the classic animated series that made the franchise a cultural phenomenon in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

The concept was developed by entrepreneur Andy Nguyen, who has built a reputation creating themed dining experiences around beloved pop culture franchises. Nguyen previously worked on restaurants inspired by franchises such as One Piece, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Hello Kitty. He reportedly spent years trying to bring the TMNT pizzeria idea to life, calling it a dream project born out of his own childhood love for the pizza-loving turtles. The restaurant was developed through a partnership with Paramount Products & Experiences and the Lunchbox Group.
Surprise! The Prices are Very High
Naturally, the menu is centered around New York-style pizza, a fitting tribute considering the Ninja Turtles themselves call New York City home. The pizzeria offers oversized 20-inch pies with names pulled straight from TMNT lore. Customers can order pizzas such as the “Cowabunga Cheese,” the “Splinter’s Supreme,” and the “Mutagen Mushroom.” Slices range from around $6.50 to $9, while full pies can cost between $39 and $54 depending on toppings. The restaurant also features themed drinks, cocktails, and exclusive merchandise that has become almost as popular as the food itself.
Of course, the pricing has generated some debate online. Some fans have praised the restaurant’s authentic New York-style pizza and immersive atmosphere, while others have questioned the premium prices for both the food and merchandise. Early visitors have generally agreed that the experience itself is the main attraction, comparing it more to visiting a themed attraction at Disneyland than simply stopping by for a slice of pizza.
The opening of the TMNT Pizzeria also highlights the incredible staying power of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise. Created by comic book artists Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird in 1984, the franchise began as a small independent comic book before exploding into a worldwide phenomenon. Since then, the turtles have starred in multiple animated series, blockbuster films, toy lines, and video games, becoming one of the most successful entertainment properties in history.
For many adults, the new pizzeria is more than just another themed restaurant—it’s a trip back to childhood. It’s the chance to relive memories of Saturday morning cartoons, action figures scattered across the bedroom floor, and dreams of hanging out in a sewer lair eating endless slices of pizza with four wisecracking mutant turtles.
Whether the TMNT Pizzeria becomes a nationwide chain or remains a unique destination in Southern California remains to be seen. But one thing is certain: after nearly 40 years of seeing the Ninja Turtles devour pizza on television screens, fans can finally pull up a chair, grab a slice, and shout the words they’ve been waiting to say for decades.
