Patrick Clancy Starts New Family With Wife

Patrick Clancy is looking toward the future with his new wife, Dr. Rachel Danis, while continuing to carry the memory of the three children he lost in the 2023 tragedy involving his former wife, Lindsay Clancy. In a deeply personal interview with “60 Minutes” that aired Sunday, Sept. 20, Patrick and Rachel spoke publicly together for the first time about their relationship, Patrick’s grief and their plans to start a family of their own. The interview came just weeks after Lindsay’s murder trial ended in a mistrial when jurors were unable to reach a unanimous verdict.

Patrick Clancy Opens Up About His Children

Patrick’s three children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, died in January 2023 at the family’s home in Duxbury, Massachusetts. Lindsay admitted through her defense that she strangled the children, but her attorneys argued that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and should not be held criminally responsible. During the “60 Minutes” interview, Patrick revisited the devastating events surrounding the deaths and described the mental health struggles he witnessed in Lindsay during the months before the tragedy. He said Lindsay experienced severe insomnia, depression and intrusive thoughts and sought psychiatric treatment, including a stay at McLean Psychiatric Hospital around New Year’s Eve in 2022. Patrick said he had little understanding at the time of postpartum mental illness and struggled to understand what was happening to his wife. “I could piece together what it was like to be really, really anxious or depressed, but I didn’t know how to manage a postpartum illness,” Patrick said during the interview. Patrick also described the final moments of his youngest child, Callan, who initially survived after Patrick found him in the family’s basement. Callan was transported to Boston Children’s Hospital, where doctors were able to restore his heartbeat. Patrick said he held onto hope that his son might survive. Callan ultimately died several days later.

A New Chapter With Rachel Danis

Patrick met Rachel Danis in New York City in January 2024 after moving away from Massachusetts. Rachel, a reproductive specialist, said the two met through a run club. The couple married in April 2026 and have since built a life together in New York. During the interview, Patrick described Rachel as an important source of support as he continues to process the loss of his children. “My life has changed since I met Rachel, in such a positive way,” Patrick said. Rachel also addressed the intense public attention surrounding Patrick and their relationship, particularly the online speculation that grew during Lindsay’s trial. “I don’t understand how the story’s been so twisted,” Rachel said, adding that she considers Patrick a selfless father and supportive partner. The couple also revealed that they are starting a family together. Patrick said that although a future child will never replace Cora, Dawson or Callan, he hopes to make sure his children know about the siblings they never had the chance to meet.

Patrick said the memories of his three children remain an important part of his life and that he continues to talk to them. When asked by correspondent Ross Douthat what he says to his children, Patrick responded that he asks them to help him. He said believing they are still helping him gives him a way to remain connected to them. He also spoke about the possibility of telling his future children about Cora, Dawson and Callan. “I can’t wait to tell them about their brothers and sister,” Patrick said. For Patrick, starting a new family does not mean leaving his first family behind. Instead, he described a future in which the memories of his three children remain part of his family’s story.

Patrick Addresses Forgiving Lindsay

The interview also gave Patrick an opportunity to discuss his feelings toward Lindsay after the deaths of their children. Patrick said Lindsay never asked him for forgiveness. Even so, he said he chose to forgive her. “No. But I gave it to her,” Patrick said when asked whether Lindsay had sought his forgiveness. Patrick said he believes Lindsay’s mental illness played a central role in what happened. He also said that holding onto anger would have prevented him from moving forward. His comments reflect the complicated nature of his grief. While he continues to mourn his children, he has also sought to understand the circumstances that led to their deaths and has become an advocate for greater awareness of perinatal mental health.

The Trial Ended Without A Verdict

Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial ended in a mistrial on Sept. 4 after jurors failed to reach a unanimous verdict. Patrick testified during the proceedings and was the prosecution’s first witness. The case centered heavily on Lindsay’s mental state and whether she was criminally responsible for the deaths of her children. Her defense argued that postpartum psychosis prevented her from understanding the wrongfulness of her actions, while prosecutors challenged that defense. As of the “60 Minutes” interview, prosecutors had not announced whether they would seek a retrial. The case is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 29, when the prosecution and defense can address the next steps. For Patrick, however, the focus is increasingly on what comes next. After years defined by tragedy, a highly publicized criminal case and overwhelming grief, he and Rachel are building a new life together while keeping Cora, Dawson and Callan firmly within their family’s story.
