It saddens me to report that this is going to be my last article for SFL.media. I got an email stating that I am being hired by MS NOW to be on-air talent. They just really liked the things I had to say. They love that I am a groyper for Nick Fuentes. They love my stances on George Floyd. They told me that they were always looking for a fat, Jewish writer turned commentator, and I fit the bill. And then those sons of bitches ended the email with the famous words that made my heart sink. It said “April Fool’s Day”. Nooooooooo Waaaaaaaaay!
I learned that April Fools’ Day has a pretty murky history. Some of the earliest references to it come from 16th-century Europe. One popular theory links it to France, after they switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar. People who were slow to catch on to the change were called “April Fools”. Over time, it spread across Europe and eventually globally, becoming a day of pranks and good-natured trickery. So, it’s kind of a mix of cultural shifts and just people having fun over centuries!

The United States picked it up much later on, but it wasn’t a US “invention” as many people here think. The US really became part of the global fun much later. It is said that by the 18th century, April Fools’ Day was definitely known in America. It came over with European settlers. Newspapers in the 19th century even published about it. But it really took off as a popular, nationwide “thing” in the US in the 19th and early 20th century, thanks to newspapers and later radio. So, it was a gradual process, not a single event, more like a cultural drift.
Some of the most notable April Fool’s moments were one in 1957, when the BBC aired a mock documentary about Swiss farmers harvesting spaghetti from trees. It was amazing how so many people fell for this. Another famous one was in 1996, when Taco Bell claimed that they bought the Liberty Bell and renamed it the “Taco Liberty Bell.” And, of course, there are lots of tech ones, like Google’s famous fake product launches. Leave a comment and tell us what some of your favorite April Fool’s moments are.
