Toys ‘R’ Us Announces Comeback With 120 New Stores Across the U.S.

Toys ‘R’ Us Makes Major Comeback

Toys “R” Us is expanding its comeback in the United States with plans to open 120 new stores across the country, giving the iconic toy retailer a much larger physical presence just in time for the holiday shopping season. The expansion will bring the company’s standalone U.S. store count to approximately 160 locations. The new stores are expected to open during the 2026 holiday season as the brand continues rebuilding its presence in American retail.

Toys ‘R’ Us Returns To More Communities

The announcement comes years after Toys “R” Us closed its remaining U.S. stores following its 2017 bankruptcy filing and 2018 liquidation. Since then, the brand has gradually returned through partnerships and smaller retail locations. The company has already established a presence inside hundreds of Macy’s stores, while standalone Toys “R” Us locations have also begun returning in select markets. The latest expansion represents a significant increase in the brand’s brick and mortar footprint and signals a renewed focus on physical stores.

New Stores Will Offer More Than Toys

The redesigned stores are expected to feature many of the toy brands that shoppers have long associated with Toys “R” Us, including LEGO, Barbie, Hot Wheels and Pokémon. The company is also looking to make its stores more experiential. Some locations are expected to include spaces designed for events, product demonstrations and social media content creation. Select stores will feature Creator Studios, which are intended to give toy brands, influencers and creators a place to produce content and engage with shoppers. Some locations will also include candy shops and cafés, adding additional attractions to the traditional toy shopping experience.

The Comeback Continues

Toys “R” Us has been steadily expanding its U.S. presence since returning to the market through its partnership with Macy’s and the reopening of standalone stores. The brand has also explored locations outside traditional shopping centers, including airports and other high traffic retail environments. The strategy reflects the changing toy industry, where traditional children’s toys now compete alongside collectibles, trading cards, licensed merchandise and products aimed at adult collectors.

Holiday Shoppers Could See New Stores

The 120 new locations are expected to open around the country during the 2026 holiday season, although a complete list of store locations and individual opening dates has not yet been announced. For a brand that disappeared from American shopping centers nearly a decade ago, the planned expansion represents one of Toys “R” Us’ largest steps toward rebuilding its former retail footprint. As the holiday season approaches, shoppers will have more opportunities to walk into a Toys “R” Us store again, bringing the familiar toy retailer back to communities across the United States.
