Do you like Elon Musk? Do you like Tesla’s line of cars that he “created”? What do you think about the Tesla Cybertruck? Pretty ugly, right? For some reason, this vehicle / EV raises a lot of opinions and conjecture. Some think they are soooooo cool. And some think they are absolutely hideous.
Tell Me More About the Cybertruck
The Tesla Cybertruck is an all-electric pickup truck featuring an unconventional, geometric, angular body built with a focus on structural utility and high performance. Inspired by the Lotus Esprit submarine car from the 1977 James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me, its exterior shell is made from an unpainted, proprietary “Ultra-Hard 30X Cold-Rolled Stainless Steel” designed to resist dents, damage, and long-term corrosion. The vehicle successfully came to market on November 30, 2023, during a highly anticipated delivery event at Tesla’s Gigafactory in Austin, Texas.

The current standard lineup starts with the Standard All-Wheel Drive (AWD) at $69,990, which features coil springs with adaptive damping, a 7-speaker audio system, and textile seating. Then you have the Premium All-Wheel Drive at $79,990. This upgrades the vehicle to full adaptive air suspension, ventilated front seats, and a 15-speaker premium audio setup. At the top of the line is The Cyberbeast, starting at $99,990, which utilizes a tri-motor version that pushes 845 horsepower and accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.6 seconds.
In mid-February 2026, Tesla briefly dropped the base AWD price to $59,990 for a 10-day promotional wave announced by Elon Musk on X, triggering a massive influx of orders that pushed estimated delivery timelines for new buyers out into 2027 before the MSRP permanently reverted back to its standard $69,990 on March 1, 2026.
So What Did Jimmy Jack Do?
A Texas man named Jimmy Jack was arrested after police say he intentionally drove his Tesla Cybertruck into Grapevine Lake to test the vehicle’s “Wade Mode” feature, only for the truck to become disabled and start taking on water.
Officers responded to Katie’s Woods Park Boat Ramp after reports of a Cybertruck partially submerged near the shoreline, according to the Grapevine Police Department.
The driver allegedly told officers he purposely drove the vehicle into the lake to use the Cybertruck’s “Wade Mode,” a feature Tesla says temporarily raises the truck’s ride height and pressurizes the battery system to help navigate shallow water and rough terrain.
The driver and passengers safely escaped the vehicle before the Grapevine Fire Department Water Rescue Team helped remove the truck from the lake, according to police. Police said no injuries were reported.
Photos shared by authorities showed the stainless steel pickup partially submerged at the boat ramp as emergency crews worked to recover it from the water.
The driver was arrested at the scene on charges, including operation of a vehicle in a closed section of a park or lake, along with multiple water safety equipment violations, police said.
So obviously this guy is an idiot. It makes you wonder how he wound up getting one of these cars. What a head scratcher.
