The Mystery of Francine’s Disappearance
Francine, a gray-and-white cat adored by shoppers and staff at a Lowe’s store in Christiansburg, Virginia, sparked a community-wide search after she suddenly went missing in late September. Known for wandering the aisles and greeting customers, Francine had become a fixture at the store — a furry local celebrity whose presence made trips to Lowe’s a little warmer. When she disappeared, employees and regulars immediately took notice. Store workers searched nearby parking lots, loading areas, and even local neighborhoods, posting flyers and checking security footage. But after days of searching, there was still no sign of her.
The Surprising Discovery
Two weeks later, Francine’s whereabouts were finally uncovered — and her journey turned out to be far more adventurous than anyone expected. The curious cat had apparently climbed onto a Lowe’s delivery truck and accidentally hitched a ride across state lines, ending up roughly 85 miles away at a distribution center in North Carolina. Workers there discovered Francine after hearing meows coming from a shipment area. When they scanned her microchip, they learned she was the missing cat from Christiansburg. According to staff, Francine appeared a bit shaken but was otherwise healthy and safe.
The Happy Reunion
Once identified, Francine was quickly transported back to her Virginia store, where employees and customers were waiting with open arms. Photos shared by Lowe’s show her back in her favorite spot by the lumber aisle, stretching out and clearly happy to be home. “She’s our mascot,” one store employee told ABC News. “Customers come in just to see her. We’re just glad she made it back safe.”
A Local Legend Returns
Francine’s return made headlines and lit up social media, turning her into a regional icon. The Lowe’s team has since implemented extra safety checks for delivery vehicles to make sure their four-legged friend doesn’t take another unplanned road trip. They even gave her a new collar tag that reads: “If found, I belong at Lowe’s.” Now safely back on familiar ground, Francine has resumed her daily rounds — greeting shoppers, exploring the garden section, and basking in her new status as one of Virginia’s most well-traveled cats.
