Dog Reunion After 5 Years
A Nebraska woman is celebrating an emotional reunion after her beloved dog, who disappeared without a trace in 2021, was found alive more than 600 miles away and returned home five years later.
For years, Inmaculada Jackman refused to give up hope that she would one day see her dog, Chong, again. The Lincoln, Nebraska, resident searched her neighborhood, checked for sightings, and continued believing that her pet might still be alive despite the passing years. That hope became reality when Chong was discovered in Indiana, setting off an extraordinary chain of events that led to the long-awaited reunion.
A Chance Discovery
Chong was found wandering near a truck stop in Hendricks County, Indiana, hundreds of miles from where he had originally disappeared. Animal control officers brought the dog to a local shelter, where staff examined him and shared his story on social media in hopes of locating an owner.
The online post eventually reached one of Jackman’s friends, who immediately recognized Chong and contacted her. After years without a single lead, Jackman suddenly learned that her missing dog had been found alive.
A Delay Before Heading Home
Although Jackman had identified Chong, bringing him home required one more step. Shelter officials discovered that someone had microchipped Chong during the years he was missing. Following standard procedures, the shelter attempted to contact the individual listed on the microchip and observed the required holding period before determining that no one would claim the dog. Once that process was complete, Jackman was able to reclaim Chong and make the trip to Indiana to bring him back to Nebraska.
An Emotional Reunion
When Jackman finally saw Chong again, the years apart quickly disappeared. Video released by the shelter showed the dog recognizing his owner before happily greeting her, creating an emotional moment for everyone involved.
The reunion also introduced Chong to another dog that had joined Jackman’s family after his disappearance. Shelter staff said the dogs appeared to get along well as Chong settled back into his home.
