Police Kill South Florida Man Following Violent Crime Spree

South Florida Man Fatally Shot by Police After Multi-Day Violent Crime Spree

HOLLYWOOD, FL — A violent multi-day crime spree spanning two South Florida cities ended in deadly force Sunday when a suspect was fatally shot by police attempting to arrest him, according to the Hollywood Police Department.

Authorities say the suspect, 32-year-old Donald Taylor, was located by detectives conducting surveillance near Southwest 61st Avenue and Southwest 19th Street in Miramar just after 4 p.m. on August 3. Taylor, who was reportedly armed and had active warrants for his arrest, refused to comply with officers’ commands. In the confrontation that followed, officers discharged their weapons. Taylor was struck, and a firearm was recovered at the scene. Taylor was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police Link Taylor to Multiple Violent Incidents

According to investigators, Taylor was a primary suspect in a string of escalating crimes in both Hollywood and Miramar over the course of several days. Authorities had been pursuing him in connection with at least five separate incidents:

• July 30, 3:56 p.m. – A vehicle burglary occurred at 1450 South State Road 7. A firearm was reported stolen.

• July 30, 4:24 p.m. – Less than 30 minutes later, Taylor allegedly committed aggravated assault in Miramar at 6590 Pembroke Road, where he reportedly pointed a firearm at a patron during a confrontation.

• August 1, 7:00 p.m. – Taylor was accused of attempting an armed robbery and assaulting a cashier at a Dollar General located at 830 South State Road 7. Police say he grabbed the woman and pointed a gun at her before fleeing the scene.

• August 1 – That same evening, a man was shot in the 1200 block of Hollywood Boulevard. Detectives say Taylor was the shooter. The victim remains hospitalized in stable but critical condition. Authorities believe the two men were acquainted.

• August 2, 5:54 p.m. – Taylor allegedly committed an armed robbery at a Walgreens at 5999 Pembroke Road, where he pointed a firearm at a store clerk and stole merchandise and/or cash before fleeing.

Officer-Involved Shooting Under State Investigation

As per Florida state policy, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) has launched an independent investigation into the officer-involved shooting. The identities of the officers involved have not yet been released, and body-worn camera footage, if available, has not yet been made public.

Hollywood Police say all indications point to Taylor being a dangerous and escalating threat, prompting the urgent need to apprehend him. The department emphasized that the officers gave verbal commands before using deadly force.

“This was a rapidly developing situation involving a known armed suspect wanted for multiple violent felonies,” the department stated in a press release. “Our officers acted in response to an immediate threat.”

Further updates will depend on the findings of the FDLE investigation and the release of public records, including incident reports and forensic analysis.
