Thieves Swipe Two Luxury Vehicles in Bold Coral Springs Apartment Heist
Coral Springs police are searching for suspects caught on surveillance video stealing two high-value vehicles during a brazen early morning heist at the Marquis Coral Springs apartments. The thefts, which occurred around 3:30 a.m. on December 12, have left residents rattled and authorities investigating a case of increasingly sophisticated car theft tactics.
Victim Speaks Out
One of the victims, Jorge Lopez, was stunned to discover his 2023 Chevrolet Camaro, valued at $71,000, stolen from right outside his home.
“It hurts. You know, you’re mad, and there’s really nothing you can do about it,” Lopez said. “You feel violated, honestly. It’s sad.”
Surveillance footage captures the thieves in action. In one video, a suspect is seen inspecting the Camaro’s tires and front end before smashing the driver’s side window. Moments later, the car is powered on and driven away as an accomplice waits nearby in another vehicle.
“It basically looks like it turned on, like if the key was inside the vehicle,” Lopez said, expressing disbelief at how quickly the crime unfolded.
Targeting High-End Vehicles
Lopez wasn’t the only victim. A neighbor’s 2024 Ram 1500 TRX, worth approximately $100,000, was also stolen in the same incident. Coral Springs police have confirmed they are investigating the thefts as two grand theft auto cases.
The thieves displayed a high level of sophistication, disabling the Camaro’s built-in tracking device mere seconds after taking the vehicle. Lopez, who lost a laptop and credit cards along with his car, is urging others to take additional security measures.
“These thieves are definitely getting more sophisticated,” he said. “They’re out hunting for their next vehicle to steal.”
Daring Getaway
Surveillance footage shows the stolen cars speeding away from the complex, even crashing into a gate during their escape. The vehicles briefly stop after the collision before fleeing the scene.
Lopez, now reliant on a rental car, said the experience has been an eye-opener. “I always thought this could never happen to me, and it did. For my future vehicles, I definitely will be installing other systems to protect my assets,” he shared.
Community Alert
The incident has raised concerns among residents of the complex, prompting calls for increased security and vigilance. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the thefts to contact Coral Springs police.
As the investigation continues, Lopez hopes his story serves as a warning and that he might still recover his prized Camaro. “I just want my car back,” he said.
What to Do if You See Suspicious Activity
Residents are encouraged to report unusual behavior in their neighborhoods and consider additional security measures, such as steering wheel locks or advanced tracking systems, to protect their vehicles from theft.
