Surveillance Footage Released in Connection with Fatal Tamarac Shooting, Public’s Help Sought

TAMARAC, FLorida – The Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) has released multiple surveillance videos in connection with the murder of a 25-year-old man in Tamarac, urging the public to assist in identifying the suspects.

The incident occurred around 2:20 a.m. on July 3, near the 6300 block of West Commercial Boulevard. BSO deputies responded to reports of a vehicle crash accompanied by gunshots. “Caller advised they heard shots and someone was shooting,” said the dispatcher during the emergency call.

The surveillance footage, captured from various angles, reveals the chaotic moments leading up to the fatal event. Two male suspects are seen fleeing the scene. One is described as having a slim build, while the other is of a stocky build. Both were wearing dark clothing at the time of the incident.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered the victim, Christopher Mathurin, dead inside his vehicle. Preliminary investigations suggest that the shooting led to a crash involving two vehicles, which subsequently collided into the back fence of a nearby home. The occupants of the second vehicle reportedly fled the scene immediately after the crash.

The impact of this tragedy has rippled through the community, particularly affecting Mathurin’s family. In a heartfelt social media video, Mathurin’s wife expressed her grief and sorrow. “We pray to God, bruh… and you took him,” she lamented. “Me and Chris prayed, bruh, like Chris would get on his knees. My daughter’s birthday is on Sunday and he not gonna be there for my baby.”

Authorities are calling on anyone with information about the incident to come forward. BSO Homicide Unit Detectives Steven Novak and Kevin White are leading the investigation and can be reached at 954-321-4325 and 954-321-4215, respectively. Additionally, tips can be submitted through the SaferWatch app or anonymously to Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477). Informants may be eligible for a reward of up to $5,000.
