Father Killed Daughters and Ex Partner Before Taking His Own Life in Doral, Authorities Say

Father Murder Suicide in Doral

A devastating family tragedy has shaken South Florida after investigators confirmed that a father killed his two young daughters and their mother before taking his own life inside a home in Doral. According to the Miami Dade Sheriff’s Office, the victims were identified as 46 year old Melanie Hyer, a well known South Florida real estate professional, her daughters Savannah Whiten, 11, and Sienna Whiten, 8, and the girls’ father, 42 year old Ryan Charles Whiten. Authorities say all four were found dead inside a residence in the Doral Isles community following a welfare check on the evening of June 2. Investigators believe the incident was a murder suicide.

Welfare Check Leads to Grim Discovery

Deputies responded to the home near Northwest 111th Court and Northwest 72nd Terrace after concerns were raised about the family’s well being. When officers entered the residence, they discovered all four victims deceased. Authorities said each victim suffered fatal stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators continue working with the Miami Dade Medical Examiner’s Office as the case remains active.

Victims Identified

Hyer was a respected figure in South Florida’s real estate industry, specializing in probate real estate services. Friends and colleagues described her as a dedicated professional and devoted mother. Investigators said Hyer and Whiten had separated years ago and were coparenting their two daughters. Both had moved on to other relationships after their separation, though those marriages had also ended. Authorities have not publicly disclosed a motive.

Community Mourns Loss

The deaths have sent shockwaves through the Doral community. Local leaders, educators, neighbors, and members of the real estate industry expressed grief over the loss of Hyer and her daughters. Doral Mayor Christi Fraga described the incident as an “unimaginable tragedy,” noting that she personally knew the family. School officials also offered counseling services and support resources for students and staff affected by the loss. The two girls were remembered as beloved students whose deaths have deeply impacted classmates and teachers.

Investigation Continues

Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the killings. Detectives continue to examine evidence and await final findings from the medical examiner as they work to determine the sequence of events inside the home.

The tragedy has renewed conversations across South Florida about domestic violence, family conflict, and the importance of early intervention when warning signs emerge. Investigators have urged anyone with relevant information to contact law enforcement as the case remains under review.
