Fort Myers Police Seize Nearly $1 Million in Major Drug Bust
FORT MYERS, Fla. — In a significant raid last week, the Fort Myers Police Department seized nearly $1 million in cash and a large quantity of illegal narcotics from a home in the Lindsford community off Winkler Avenue. Authorities say this is the largest cash seizure in an investigation in the department’s history.
The raid took place on Wilmont Place, where neighbors witnessed a heavy police presence. “I’d say probably 12 squad cars, two big white vans, surveillance vans, and the SWAT truck came in as well,” said Luis Garcia, a resident in the community. “From what they were saying on the speaker, they were saying, ‘We have a search warrant.’”
Fort Myers police had served a search warrant related to narcotics. Inside the residence, they discovered $949,849 in U.S. currency, alongside 683.1 grams of fentanyl, 5.5 grams of oxycodone, 23.8 grams of methamphetamine, 176.7 grams of crack cocaine, and a Glock 43X handgun. The large sums of cash were found hidden throughout the home, stashed in safes, mattresses, box springs, and bags.
The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Travis Hixon, has a long criminal record. He initially refused to leave the house during the raid. Hixon now faces multiple charges, including drug possession and obstruction of a search warrant.
Fort Myers Police Chief Jason Fields emphasized the importance of community involvement in such cases. “No community is immune from drugs, guns, and violence, but with tips like this, we can make a difference,” he said. “My initial reaction is, wow. Almost $1 million.”
Police were tipped off to the investigation by members of the Lindsford community. Authorities encourage residents to report suspicious activity, reminding the public, “If you see something, say something.”
If the cash is proven to be linked to drug dealing, and the state allows, the Fort Myers Police Department plans to use the funds to support future operations aimed at cracking down on illegal drug activity in the area.
This raid highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat the presence of drugs in local neighborhoods and ensure the safety of residents.
