Man Killed in Plantation Domestic Shooting; Suspect at Large
FORT LAUDERDALE — A domestic dispute in Plantation turned deadly Saturday morning, leaving one man dead and a community reeling as police continue their search for the suspect.
The incident occurred at a residence near 7000 W. Sunrise Blvd. in the Apple Creek Community. According to Plantation Police, officers responded to the scene and discovered a man dead from gunshot wounds, while the suspected shooter had already fled the area.
Authorities initially established a perimeter between West Sunrise Boulevard and Northwest 65th Avenue to search for the suspect but dismantled the containment efforts later that afternoon.
Victim Identified by Family
The victim’s family identified him as Clayous Peart, though neighbors knew him as “Paul,” a helpful and well-liked member of the community. Family members told reporters they believe Peart was killed by his stepson.
Neighbor Bill Yarrow recounted the chaotic aftermath, describing how another resident witnessed the suspect fleeing in Peart’s vehicle and crashing it nearby before continuing to evade authorities. “Later in the day, I had SWAT in my backyard,” Yarrow said.
Community Mourns a Beloved Neighbor
Peart’s death has shaken the close-knit neighborhood, where residents remembered him as a kind and reliable presence.
“I knew him as ‘Rasta Man Paul’ — just a nice guy,” Yarrow said. “He was the easiest, nicest, most mellow guy you could meet.”
Another neighbor shared how Peart frequented Home Depot every morning for supplies, reflecting his helpful and industrious nature.
Investigation Ongoing
By Sunday evening, crime scene investigators and the medical examiner were still processing the scene. A body was removed from the home as grieving family members looked on.
Plantation Police confirmed the shooting was an isolated incident and assured residents there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains active. Authorities have yet to publicly identify the victim or the suspected shooter.
As the community grapples with the loss, police continue their search for answers in a case that has left neighbors and family members devastated.
