Miami DJ Identified After Fatal Shooting

A 25-year-old Miami DJ has been identified as the man who was fatally shot Monday morning at a home near the city’s Design District. Miami police on Wednesday identified the deceased as Melvin Díaz Cepeda. The shooting happened around 5 a.m. Monday at a home in the 4600 block of Northwest Fifth Avenue, near the Design District.

According to investigators, the person who fired the fatal shot reported that Díaz Cepeda was an intruder inside the home. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting, and no charges related to the death have been announced. Miami Fire Rescue responded to the scene, where Díaz Cepeda was pronounced dead. Investigators questioned a person at the scene as detectives worked to determine what happened before the shooting.

Friends Describe Díaz Cepeda As An Aspiring DJ

Díaz Cepeda was born in the Dominican Republic and had moved to Miami, where friends said he was working toward a career as a DJ. Friends described Díaz Cepeda as someone who was passionate about music and wanted to establish himself in Miami’s entertainment scene.

One fellow DJ and friend said Díaz Cepeda and the person who shot him knew each other and had previously been photographed together. The friend also questioned the circumstances surrounding the description of Díaz Cepeda as an alleged intruder.

Investigation Remains Ongoing

Police have not publicly released additional details about how Díaz Cepeda entered the property or what happened immediately before the shooting. Investigators also have not announced whether the person who fired the shot will face criminal charges.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Díaz Cepeda’s death. Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477. Tips can be provided anonymously. The investigation remains active as detectives work to determine exactly what happened in the moments leading up to the fatal shooting.
