Rolex Watch Stolen from Patient
A Miami hospital worker has been arrested after police said he was caught on camera stealing a Rolex watch valued at $45,000 from an elderly patient under his care. According to Miami Beach police, 38-year-old Ricardo Gonzalez was working at Mount Sinai Medical Center when the theft occurred. Investigators said security footage captured Gonzalez pocketing the luxury watch while inside the patient’s hospital room earlier this month. The patient later reported the watch missing, prompting an internal review and police involvement.
Detectives confirmed that the surveillance video showed Gonzalez taking the watch and walking out of the room. He was arrested shortly after and now faces charges of grand theft and exploitation of the elderly—both serious felony offenses in Florida. Mount Sinai officials released a statement following the arrest, saying Gonzalez had been terminated and emphasizing that the hospital has “zero tolerance” for employee misconduct. Administrators added they are working closely with law enforcement to ensure accountability in the case.
The victim, who has not been identified publicly, was not injured but left shaken by the incident. Police said the crime highlights how elderly patients can be vulnerable to theft and exploitation while receiving care. Gonzalez was booked into Miami-Dade jail and is being held on bond as the investigation continues. Prosecutors are reviewing the evidence, and additional charges may be considered as the case moves forward.
