Good Samaritan Shot and Killed While Trying to Break Up Fight After Orange County Crash
A morning traffic crash in Orange County turned deadly Tuesday after authorities say a Good Samaritan stopped to intervene in a violent confrontation between a man and woman, only to be shot and later die at a hospital. The shooting unfolded around 8:30 a.m. near Plymouth Sorrento Road and West Pumpkin Road in northwest Orange County, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and a developing report from WESH 2 News.
Investigators say the incident began with a man and woman physically fighting inside a moving vehicle. The situation escalated when their vehicle crashed at the intersection, but the confrontation apparently did not end with the collision. Instead, deputies say the pair continued fighting outside or around the crashed vehicle. That is when another man reportedly attempted to intervene.
Bystander Steps Into Fight and Is Shot
According to investigators, the victim was a bystander who apparently encountered the aftermath of the crash and tried to break up the altercation. At some point during his intervention, gunfire erupted and the Good Samaritan was struck. Emergency crews transported the wounded man to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities had not immediately released his identity as investigators worked to determine exactly how the confrontation escalated from a traffic crash and physical fight into a fatal shooting. The circumstances surrounding the gunfire, including who allegedly fired the weapon, how many shots were fired and what immediately preceded the shooting, remained under investigation Tuesday.
Fight Reportedly Began Before Vehicle Crashed
