Shooting in Northwest Miami-Dade Leaves One Dead, Two Injured

Doral, FL — A tragic shooting on Friday, July 5, 2024, has left one person dead and two others injured in Northwest Miami-Dade, near Doral, according to police. The incident occurred around 1 p.m. behind the West Airport Shopping Centre at 7367 NW 36th St., approximately a mile east of Doral.

Details of the Incident

Emergency calls indicated that the shooting took place following an argument. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue reported that two victims were transported to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital; one was airlifted, and the other transported by ambulance. A third individual received treatment at the scene for minor injuries.

Detective Andre Martin, a spokesperson for the Miami-Dade police, stated that the altercation led to the exchange of gunfire. As shots were fired, people in the vicinity scattered. Authorities found one person dead at the scene.

Current Status

As of Friday afternoon, police have detained five individuals with varying levels of involvement in the incident. However, no arrests have been made at this time.

Eyewitness Accounts

Local reporters observed a young man being detained outside the DCN Church, located at 4005 NW 79th Avenue. The church is adjacent to Zerpa’s Antojos Criollos, a bakery managed by Yalitza Hernandez, who witnessed the event unfold via her store’s security cameras.

“It was three young men, and they called the cops,” Hernandez said. “But when the cops came, the young man sitting down said the three young men were trying to rob him.” The detained man’s mother corroborated this, claiming the three men attempted to rob her son.

Community Reaction

Michael Dodd, a visitor from Long Island, New York, staying at the nearby La Quinta Inn, described the scene as he walked to a nearby McDonald’s. “I came from down there to go to the McDonald’s,” Dodd recounted. “I started walking down and saw all of the police cars.”
