Vandals Smash Windows at Newly Opened South Florida Restaurant

Vandalism at Coral Springs Restaurant

A newly opened restaurant in Coral Springs is recovering after a targeted act of vandalism left nearly a dozen windows shattered, forcing staff into emergency cleanup mode just hours before opening service. The business, Hellenic, had only been operating for a short time when the incident occurred overnight, leaving the owner and employees stunned by the scale and precision of the damage.

A Calculated Act, Not Random Damage

According to owner Nikol Zarbalas, the destruction was not random. Roughly 10 glass windows were smashed with enough force to send shards deep into the interior of the restaurant. Evidence at the scene suggests the attacker struck from outside, and investigators believe a smoke device may have also been used during the incident. Surveillance footage from a nearby business captured a large cloud of smoke, leading to speculation that a smoke bomb was thrown but detonated before entering the building. The methodical nature of the damage has raised concerns that the business may have been deliberately targeted rather than randomly vandalized.

Business Opens Anyway Hours After Attack

Despite the destruction, the restaurant did not shut down. Within hours of discovering the damage, Zarbalas and her team began sweeping glass, securing the property, and installing temporary coverings where windows had been destroyed. The restaurant opened as scheduled later that same day, pivoting quickly to accommodate guests with modified seating arrangements. Events, including a planned baby shower, continued without cancellation, reflecting a determination to maintain normal operations even in the face of disruption.

Financial Impact and Community Support

The cost of repairs is expected to climb into the thousands, posing a serious challenge for a newly opened small business still establishing itself. Replacing multiple commercial glass panels is a significant expense, especially without clear answers about who is responsible or why the attack occurred. In response, members of the local community have begun rallying around the restaurant, offering support as it works to recover both financially and emotionally from the incident.

Investigation Remains Ongoing

Police in Coral Springs are continuing their investigation and have not announced any arrests. Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage and urging anyone with information to come forward. At this stage, no motive has been confirmed, leaving the owner and community searching for answers. What remains undeniable is the intent behind the act. This was not minor vandalism but a coordinated and destructive attack on a small business. Even so, the response from the restaurant has shifted the narrative from damage to resilience, with the owner making it clear that the incident will not define the future of her business.
