Rookie Teacher of the Year Faces Shocking Allegations at Doral High
Doral – A promising start to a teaching career at J.C. Bermudez Doral Senior High School has been abruptly overshadowed by serious allegations. Edian Villar, a 28-year-old science teacher recently lauded as the school’s “rookie teacher of the year,” was arrested on Thursday following accusations of engaging in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student.
According to a police report released by Miami-Dade Public Schools police, the alleged misconduct came to light when a fellow teacher reportedly witnessed Villar and the student in a sexual act within Villar’s classroom. The teacher stated she was passing through a shared closet connecting her room to Villar’s when she opened the door and saw the pair on his desk. The report details that Villar appeared startled and adjusted his clothing upon being discovered.
The witnessing teacher immediately reported the incident to Principal Edward Smith, prompting an investigation by Miami-Dade Schools Police.
Investigators interviewed the teenage student in the presence of her mother. According to the arrest report, the student admitted to having a sexual relationship with Villar in his classroom. Principal Smith addressed parents on Tuesday via a message informing them of Villar’s arrest and removal from the school site. This type of behavior will not be tolerated as it runs contrary to the professional conduct we expect from all employees.”
The district confirmed that they have initiated the process to terminate Villar’s employment. He is currently facing several felony charges, including unlawful sexual activity with a minor, child abuse, and offenses against students by an authority figure.
