Weekend Update

Weekend Update is a satirical news segment on the American sketch comedy show, Saturday Night Live (SNL). It was created by Chevy Chase and first premiered on October 11, 1975, during the show’s first season.

Initially called “The Weekend Update with Chevy Chase,” the segment was intended to be a parody of network news programs, and it featured Chase delivering fake news stories with a comedic twist. The segment quickly became popular and established a format that would be used for decades to come.

Over the years, Weekend Update has been hosted by a number of comedians, including Dan Aykroyd, Jane Curtin, Dennis Miller, Kevin Nealon, Norm Macdonald, Colin Quinn, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Seth Meyers, and Michael Che, among others. Each host has brought their unique comedic style to the segment, and many have used it as a platform to comment on current events and politics.

In addition to the host, Weekend Update has also featured a number of recurring characters and sketches over the years. Some of the most famous include “Roseanne Roseannadanna,” “Emily Litella,” “The Church Lady,” and “Stefon.” Today, Weekend Update remains one of the most popular segments on Saturday Night Live, and it continues to be a staple of the show’s format. It has won numerous awards and has been praised for its ability to mix humor with social and political commentary.
